1996. “Downtown America”

Dave Sharp

The tracks I played on were co-produced by legendary producer Bob Johnson (who produced Bob Dylan). I played keyboards. We were in the middle of recording at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley, California when someone excitedly called us into the lounge.
A TV was blaring out the bizarre chase scene of OJ Simpson’s white Bronco down a Los Angeles freeway, being followed by what seemed like dozens of police cruisers with lights flashing. It was all very surreal. We all know how that turned out.
The band that day also included my old friend Prairie Prince (who I later found out would have been in the band Nicky Hopkins talked to me about forming back in 1972), and Chris Solberg.
I haven’t seen Dave since then…he was living in New Orleans for a while; a great talent.
