The 2006 Sacred Run kick-off concert was recorded February 10, 2006 at StudioZ in San Francisco. The run began the following morning, from San Francisco to Washington, D.C. This 4,500 mile, 71 day walk and run event went through Native Nations, down to New Orleans to witness first hand the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, through the Smokey Mountains visiting with tribal people who refused to go to Oklahoma during the Trail of Tears era, then to Washington, D.C., to deliver a firm message of “All Life is Sacred” to the Nation.
Sacred Run History
Since ancient time, running has been a sacred tradition among Native people. In 1977, the run was reintroduced when the Elder’s Circle decided ti was time to spread the message, “All Life is Sacred”, across the world. Starting with The Longest Walk, in 1978, the spiritual walk ans Sacred Run has traveled over the continents spreading its sacred message.
Today, The Sacred Run is an annual event organized by the Nowa Cumig Institute (Sacred Run Foundation) continuing the sacred message, focusing on evolving issues and concerns of Native Americans, and reinforcing the importance of preserving the Native American culture & traditions for all future generations.
Proceeds from the Sacred Run CD benefit the nonprofit organization, Nowa Cumig Institute, which funds Sacred Run, and supports various Native American Youth programs. For information please visit: www.sacredrun.org and www.nowacuming.org
We dedicate this recording to Bill Wahpepah who was a good friend of the Bay Area musicians. In 2007, we will commemorate the 20th year of his passing into the spirit world and also to Maggie Deocampo Eisenbise, who gave her precious time to this and many other Sacred Runs, and has since passed into the spirit world.
