2006. “Years In Your Ears”

Leftover Salmon

  • Release 2006

I was interviewed for this documentary about my friends in Leftover Salmon and the various shows I played with them during the 1990’s…usually between Hot Tuna tours. We often travelled on the old yellow school bus; mostly before Mark Vann passed away.
Unfortunately the director couldn’t find any footage of me playing a live show with them…so I just talked about my impressions of playing with them, and they included some backstage shots they found. Some footage of me playing accordion with Salmon at Wavy Gravy’s “Pignic” did eventually show up on YouTube…but too late to be included in the film. Leftover Salmon were pretty much the first to come up with the brand of “Slamgrass” that took off with bands like “String Cheese Incident” etc.
Salmon’s lead singer and good friend of mine Vince Herman was the ultimate front man for this style of “anything goes” bluegrass music…he never wore shoes onstage I remember. They were all amazing players as well. Wonderful band. Vince now has his own band “Great American Taxi”…I’ve sat in with them a few times…and Vince and I toured Hawaii together with the “David Nelson Band”. — with Vince Herman, Leftover Salmon and Drew Emmitt.
